Kenya’s Affordable Housing Program (AHP) is a government-led initiative designed to increase access to decent and affordable housing for low- and middle-income earners. Many Kenyans are unable to access traditional mortgages or private housing due to high costs, and this program aims to bridge that gap.
The program is implemented through partnerships between the government and private developers. Applications and allocations are managed through the Boma Yangu Housing Portal.
At Nile Real Appraisers (EA) Limited, we assist clients with registration, application, and follow-up during the housing allocation process.
The Affordable Housing Program focuses on developing modern apartment complexes in urban and peri-urban areas across Kenya. These developments are designed to offer quality housing at reasonable prices while providing residents with essential infrastructure and community amenities.
Most affordable housing estates include:
Multi-storey apartment buildings
Secure gated communities
Reliable water supply and sewerage systems
Electricity and energy-efficient installations
Landscaped green spaces
Parking facilities
Children’s playgrounds
Retail shops or small commercial areas within the estate
Security systems including CCTV and controlled access
Many projects also integrate sustainable solutions such as rainwater harvesting systems, solar energy, and energy-efficient construction materials to help reduce household utility costs.
Affordable housing projects provide different unit types to accommodate various income levels and family sizes.
